Rummikub scoreboard

Online score sheet for Rummikub. 2-4 players, mobile-friendly, all the cumulative totals tracked for you.

How scoring works

  • 2 to 4 players. 106 numbered tiles plus 2 jokers; each player starts with 14 tiles on a rack.
  • On your turn, draw a tile or play melds (runs and groups). Open with a single play worth at least 30 points before you can rearrange the board.
  • Round winner empties their rack and scores 0. Each loser adds the sum of points on tiles still in their rack — face value 1 to 13; jokers count 30 (house variations 25 to 50).
  • Match ends after a fixed round count or when a player crosses a cumulative threshold (500 is common). Lowest total wins.

History & how it plays

Rummikub was invented in the 1940s by Romanian-Israeli designer Ephraim Hertzano, who hand-made the first sets in his Tel Aviv backyard before selling them door-to-door. By the 1970s the game had crossed into the United States and licensed editions began appearing across Europe; today over 60 million sets have sold worldwide and Rummikub is one of the top-selling boardgames in history. The mechanics borrow from rummy card games but the tile-and-rack format speeds play and adds a uniquely visual rearrangement element that keeps every player's brain engaged on someone else's turn. A standard round runs 10 to 20 minutes; matches typically span six to twelve rounds played to a 500-point cumulative threshold.

Scoring tips & common pitfalls

Save your low-value tiles for late-game flexibility — a stuck 1 or 2 hurts your final tally much less than a stuck 12 or 13. Don't open with the bare minimum (30 points) if a slightly larger first meld lets you offload three tiles instead of two; rack count matters more than meld weight after that. Watch the joker. A joker on your rack at round-end costs 30 points (or more in some house variations), so plan to play it on or before your second move. When the bag empties, count tiles on every rack — sometimes the winning play is to stall rather than push.

Frequently asked questions

How many players can play Rummikub?

Two to four. Three-player games tend to be the most strategic; two-player games run fastest.

Why does the first meld have to be worth 30 points?

The opening threshold prevents trivial one-tile plays. Once you've crossed it, you can rearrange the entire board freely on subsequent turns.

What are jokers worth at the end of a round?

30 points is the published rule. Several house variants use 25 or 50 — agree before the match starts so the scoreboard stays consistent.

Does Rummikub end at a score or after a number of rounds?

Both formats are common. The scoreboard supports either: pick a round count up front, or play until a player crosses 500 cumulative points.
